Charity at Christmas: Raising Money For Shelter

It’s that festive time of year again, and if you have a single empathetic bone in your body then the Christmas season should bring about an overwhelming sense of emotion from deep within you: namely guilt.

The British will flock to homeless shelters on Christmas eve to serve the less fortunate warm turkey soup, the Polish will lay an extra space on the table for the weary lost traveller and the 93 Feet East team will be hosting a fund raising bar event, aiding Shelter to provide better housing for those without fire places to pin their stockings to.

CONTINUES…

But hark, ‘tis not all doom and gloom. Who says we can’t help and have fun? It’s going to be a fantastic evening no doubt, and here’s why:

  • Every drink you buy raises money for Shelter
  • We’re giving away warm mince pies
  • We’ll be serving hot mulled wine
  • We have the best pink bar DJs spinning for us (Young Offenders’ Institute and Wreck It Up and Power Up!)
  • We also have 93’s in house Chrimbo DJ’s The 90-3 French Hen Cartel and Seven Swans A Sh*tting
  • We have a spankingly good new soundsystem
  • It’s FREE ENTRY

Now doesn’t that look fantastic? Make sure your here next Wednesday the 16th.

The New Soundsystem - Exposed!

So we’re now ready to officially announce the new sound system in the Pink Bar, which should (luck in our favour) be ready by this weekend.

As anyone that’s been to 93 will know, when things start to get silly on a Friday or Saturday night they get silly in the Pink Bar - steamy windows, spilt beer, dancing on tables - it’s pretty much a booze fuelled riot.

Well now the bass will wobble harder, the windows will rattle louder and the beer will spill… wetter thanks to thousands and thousands of £££ of new sound system.

There’s also a bit of a redesign of our DJ booth going down. The engineers have been talking about cutting stuff up with chainsaws and putting it back together different (better) and all sort of other crazy ideas.

All in all it’s very exciting news. If you’re a bit of a music bod and you require specifics, see below:

System Manufacurer: d&B audiotechnik http://www.dbaudio.com/en/company/

Components: 4 x C7’s tops http://www.dbaudio.com/en/systems/c_series/c7_top/

1 x B2’s (infra sub bass) http://www.dbaudio.com/en/systems/c_series/b2/

2 x C7’s (subs / low mids) http://www.dbaudio.com/en/systems/c_series/c7_sub/

Come down to 93 this weekend to hear it take its first baby steps in dirty electro, pounding techno and proper party music.

See you here,

10 Reasons Why We May Be Hosting The Best NYE Party... Ever. Part 1.

So we’re gearing up for our huuuge New Years Eve party, and though you may think us biased we really do believe it’s going to be the best one in town, maybe even in the UK. “Prove it” I hear you say. Well then, we will. Here’s part one.

1) Doves / Sub Sub

One of our four (yes, four. f-o-u-r.) big headliners, the legendary Doves will be DJing for us. We love Doves, but aside from the fact that they’ve made some our favourite indie tracks of all time it’s also worth remembering that their roots are set in house music. In their previous incarnation as Sub Sub they released the dance floor classic ‘Ain’t No Love (Ain’t No Use)’. With this in mind we’re in no doubt that they will deliver a masterclass in arse shaking music made for the dancefloor.

2) Wild Beasts

Another of our four (four!) headliners. Wild Beasts played here in February. They then released their second album, Two Dancers, to unanimous critical acclaim. But we don’t need the critics to tell us it’s good - Two Dancers has been played in the 93 office more than any other album this year, and will no doubt be atop of many publications’ albums of 2009 lists. And now they’re back with us again, this time providing their favourite party tunes for the midnight crowd.

3) New Soundsystem in the Pink Bar

Being installed this week, literally thousands and thousands of £££ worth of brand spanking new window wobbling, stomach churning, groin arousing sub bass. And that’s only half of the excitement, because hosting the bar for the night we have…

4) Superfilth!!!

…Superfilth!!! Aside from the headliners they’ve booked (see part 2) the resident Superfilth!!! DJ’s themselves know exactly how to make a room of merry dancers go absolutley fucking nuts. Believe me, I’ve seen it. They’ll be filling the early hours with filthy basslines, piercing sirens and fidget-y beats. A perfect way to hear the new sound system.

5) £18 Tickets

Even though we’re only half way along our count down, £18 a ticket still seems crazy. Even when the early bird tickets are gone… £20? What are other venues giving you for £20? I’ll tell you. ONE headliner. TRIBUTE acts. OUTDATED soundsystems. RUBBISH!!!

Part 2 very soon…

Power Up! DJ 25ThC has provided us with this cheese-tastic mash up of 90s Christmas tunes to whet your appetite for the event.

Shuffle 01

In a brief attempt to hold your interest in the blog whilst we’re knee deep in (exciting) New Years Eve finalisations/booking the best bands in the world, here’s one of those self indulgent ‘first ten tracks on shuffle’ whatsits.

Think of it as a 100% honest, integrity destroying chart of sorts.

Here we go:

01 Mutators - I’m Not Down (Kill Me)

One of the loudest albums of 2009. The kind of thing you listen to once, recommend to everyone, then put to one side. So ‘now’ that they’ve broken up already. Recommended. http://www.myspace.com/mutators

02 East 17 - Stay Another Day (Best Of…)

Um… I blame Glastonbury for this one. http://www.myspace.com/east17

03 Biffy Clyro - Cloud Of Stink (Only Revolutions)

A song about tartan guffs. http://www.myspace.com/biffyclyro

04 Bipolar Bear - Old Guts (Harlem Pripyat)

We discovered bipolar bear a couple months ago and they’ve fast become the offices favourite new band. You very much need to check out Harlem Pripyat. http://www.myspace.com/bipolarbear

05 Editors - Munich (The Back Room)

Yeah? Don’t care, I love them. http://www.myspace.com/editorsmusic

06 The Horrors - Three Decades (Primary Colours)

Was one of our favourite albums of 2009 but I think we’ve over played it a little now. http://www.myspace.com/thehorrors

07 Michael Jackson - Workin’ Day And Night (Off The Wall)

According to MySpace you can send the guy a text. What would you text to MJ? Answers on a post card. http://www.myspace.com/michaeljackson

08 Boys Noize - Transmission (Power)

Nicely compliments Vitalics’ stonking new effort. http://www.myspace.com/boysnoize

09 Take That - Love Ain’t Here Anymore

I’m going to blame the missus and pretend I have no interest in this one. http://www.myspace.com/takethattv

10 Japandroids - The Boys Are Leaving Town (Post Nothing)

Best track of the year. Fucking BRILLIANT. http://www.myspace.com/japandroids

So there you have it.

New Years Eve!

“93 Feet East Take On The Infamous Superfilth!!! in the New Years Party To End Them All!”

DJ SETS FROM: DOVES, WILD BEASTS, DOES IT OFFEND YOU, YEAH?, GRECO ROMAN SOUNDSYSTEM, SLUTTY FRINGE, BOOGALOO CREW, BLACK MASA, POSH KIDS, SOLID GOLD, ARROW!!!, OLI DAB vs ROBIN and SEVEN SHADES OF SH*T.

93’s New Year’s Knock Out rounds off another awesome 12 months at 93 Feet East with what may be our best NYE line up yet. 2009 saw Wild Beasts, Telepathe, Vivian Girls, Wavves, Seal Club Clubbing Club, The Twilight Sad, Danananakroyd, O’ Children, We Fell To Earth, Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, Fenech Soler and many more superb acts taking their first steps towards world domination here in our very own venue.

So what better way to celebrate such a colossal year than with the New Years Eve party to end them all. Free Friday favourites Superfilth!!! will be taking on 93’s in house bookers in a frenzied, music driven head to head. Expect music that shouts, stops and starts, deaders and hangers on, stilton stompers, memories, mash ups and northern electro country soul – it’s one hell of a disco stew and you get to experience it on a brand new sound system – thousands of pounds of infra sub bass to kick in the ears.

In the red corner we have a headline DJ set from indie legends DOVES who, with their history steeped in the early 90’s house scene as Sub Sub, are sure to deliver an immense set of eclectic music. Golden boys of 2009 WILD BEASTS are up for round two. The guys will no doubt be atop many album of the year lists so we feel genuinely excited to have them fighting for us.  We also have masters of the blog scene SLUTTY FRINGE, who are up from “Blog Of The Year” at the Record of the Day Awards this year. Then there’s mash up mayhem from BLACK MASA, and SEVEN SHADES OF SH*T spinning his filthiest tracks.

In the blue corner DOES IT OFFEND YOU, YEAH? will be taking the prime time spot. DIOYY have had a busy year having helped produce the lead tracks from the latest Prodigy album. Olympian heavyweights GRECO ROMAN SOUNDSYSTEM are sure to pack a sturdy punch, and you can expect some of the dirtiest dance tracks around supplied courtesy of BOOGALOO CREW, SOLID GOLD, ARROW!!! and OLI DAB vs ROBIN.

Then there’s the first class food served fresh all night, the new courtyard cocktail bar and an ever growing list of new drinks in the hall and pink bar to choose from.

All that with early bird tickets on sale for only £18, (£20 standard advance price).

What more could you ask for?

This. Will. Be. Huge. We’ll see you here.
